Live performance by Pheleba

There will also be a live performance by Birmingham singer/songwriter, Pheleba.

WMMB was established in May 2021 as a collective strategic voice to advocate for, compile data on and lead the local music sector and the Write the Future: Music Creator Conference will be its first public event.

The board is led by music professionals, DJs, record labels, event managers/CEOs as well as festival and arts programmers. Its mission is to champion the region’s music industry and ecosystem, protect and promote music industry development at grassroots level and work with local authorities, institutions and government to develop regional data, policies and advocacy.

WMMB partnership

WMMB has partnered with Punch Records, B:Music and Meta (parent company of Facebook/Instagram/Quest) to deliver the conference. Meta will deliver talks about music marketing best practice across Facebook and Instagram.

Birmingham’s Nick Reed, CEO of B:Music, the charity responsible for Symphony Hall and Town Hall, Birmingham’s two iconic concert halls, and chair of WMMB, said:

“The West Midlands Music Board is delighted to be partnering with Meta to present Write the Future, a chance for the region’s music sector to come together to be inspired, to learn and to network. Aimed at artists, managers, promoters and more, delegates will be able to learn practical tips and tricks for increasing reach on Meta’s platforms in order to get seen and heard. It is a rare chance to hear directly from the experts.

“Having launched during the pandemic, this is also a first opportunity for the WMMB to host a live event, introducing board members and developing the conversation about how the board can best represent the music sector across the region. This is a great opportunity to directly feed into the board’s priorities for the next year.”

Fireside chat with Meta’s Sade Omojowo

Sade Omojowo, Strategic Partnership Manager for Creators across Instagram and Facebook for Meta, also from Birmingham, will be speaking in a fireside chat at the event. Sade said of the event:

‘’I am delighted to be back in my home city in June for Write the Future. This event will be a chance to be introduced to some of the most amazing musical talent and work happening in the West Midlands. We are thrilled to speak alongside the West Midlands Music Board and Music Leaders from the region.”

Championing the West Midlands’ best talent

Nikki Riggon, Senior Creative Producer at Punch Records, who will chair the event, said that Punch is constantly facilitating the growth of Birmingham’s creative industry and championing Midlands based talent. By partnering with the WMMB and Meta she said they hope to take this to another level and will continue to support the next wave of musicians, entrepreneurs and creatives by highlighting the vast pool of talent that the midlands has to offer.

“This is such an exciting opportunity for us to get Midlands based artists collaborating and creating together. The amount of talent in the region at the moment is huge and this event will highlight that.

We want to see more people collaborating as a result of this event. We know we have some amazing content creators and we have some extremely talented musicians and entrepreneurs changing the face of the West Midlands music industry, they’re building infrastructure that’s been missing for years. The more we see collaboration between creatives, the stronger this infrastructure will become.”
